What If ... Blackpool
First phase, June 2016: The Lido - Our Space, Your Space
From Monday 20th June to Friday 1st July, Cork Community Art Link will open our new home at the former Lido Cinema to the public. Over 10 days of public interaction, creativity and discussion, we will host workshops, panel discussions, an exhibition from our photographic and video archives, cinema screenings in collaboration with Frameworks Films, and much more. We hope to get an informed picture of cultural and social life in Blackpool, past and present, and to give the community the opportunity to learn more about our organisation. We will collect local stories and information that will support the development of What If… Blackpool over the next two years. As we temporarily restore the historic Lido to its former use, we invite the public to attend four special cinema events in collaboration with Frameworks Films.
We also want to get first-hand accounts, evaluations and recommendations for our practice from participants and partners, past, present and future. This process will inform CCAL’s planning and design of our future programme of work as well as instigate new relationships within the community. It will also establish stakeholders’ sense of ownership over the building and its creative future. As part of the project, we are hosting meeting sessions on Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd June and invite community group representatives to attend. The sessions will comprise a presentation of Cork Community Art Link's work, followed by an open discussion.

A What If... Project
What If… is a program developed by Cork Community Art Link dedicated to creative research, exploration and creative development relating to urban public space. We work in partnership with community groups to create processes, interventions and art works that explore the dynamics of contemporary urban public space. The last What If …project was the hugely ambitious and successful Voices of Shandon, which saw 1200 people make their own flags that were put on display on Shandon tower for 3 months in summer 2013.
